Gelatin constitutes the shells of pharmaceutical capsules in order to make them easier to swallow. Gelatin is a translucent, colourless, brittle, nearly tasteless solid substance, extracted from the collagen inside animals' connective tissue. It has been commonly used as a gelling agent in food, pharmaceutical, photography, and cosmetic manufacturing.

Hoodia Gordonii is an extract from the Hoodia plant of South West Africa. It is one of the fore runners in weight loss programs. Quenching thirst and providing energy are two of the numerous uses of the plant extract. The extract reduces gastric acid output in the stomach to a large extent, ranging from 40 – 60%. Aside from repressing hunger, Hoodia raises the overall energy levels in the body and will make a person feel completely healthy – both mentally and physically. Hoodia Gordonii is known to be extremely effective and does not have side effects such as dizziness, causing an increase of the heart beat or body temperature and sleeplessness. Hoodia Gordonii, however, should not be used during pregnancy and by nursing mothers.

Magnesium Stearate is coommonly used as a filling agent in the manufacture of capsules and tablets, such as vitamins, the source of this ingredient is typically bovine. However, there is an increasing number of vegetarian options in which the product specifically indicates it contains magnesium stearate from vegetable sources.
